Conception Abbey Basilica Tour
Nineteen parishioners from Sacred Heart and Mary Immaculate joined in a group tour of the Conception Abbey Basilica for it's 150th Anniversary! Participants toured the Basilica, learned about Benedictine spirituality from a monk, attended Mass, had lunch, and shopped at the gift shop before viewing the relics and adoration chapel at the Monastery of the Benedictine Sister of Perpetual Adoration.

Dear family and friends,
After I arrived here in July I noticed a rusty old flag pole. It brought back memories of the 1970's when I was in my 20's and Father Thomas Gier was the pastor of Sacred Heart and I would visit him. I remember Father Gier telling me: "Phil, come with me and help me take down the flag."
About 40 years passed. The church is the same, the Sacred Heart shrine is the same, and Father Gier has passed on to his reward. The old rectory was torn down and a new house built for the priests, where Father Jack Zupez SJ and I live. Still the flag pole stands unshaken.
A widow recently donated to Sacred Heart Parish a flag that belonged to her deceased husband, a veteran. I did not serve our country as did millions of brave Americans, many of whom gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy. So I am happy that AT LEAST I can show a little patriotism by treating with respect for the red, white and blue.
Sincerely in the Lord,
Father Philip Luebbert
